The most emotional wedding to date!

Last night’s wedding at the Stoa was, for me, one of the most beautiful and breathtaking weddings I’ve ever witnessed ever since I’ve started working at the catering services company. For the first time, I could relate to the bride – Her father has passed away a couple of years ago, also because of Cancer, like my dad did – and I soo wanted to approach to her and give her a hug, but I didn’t.

When the ceremony began and people started to walk toward the canopy, the mother of the bride came out with 2 of, i think, her sons at each side which totally got me thinking of my mom and wondering with who, when I get married, My mom will walk down to the canopy. After that, at the top of the stairs, you could see the flower girls, I think 6 or 7 girls, were lining up waiting for the bride. When she came out, she stood at the top of the stairs, and then music started playing and there was a photo presentation shown on screens and after a few seconds she started singing a song dedicated to her father – and that was the breathtaking moment for me because during the first couple of lines I couldn’t breathe and when I did the tears started to come out and after a few more moments I had to get out and get some tissues to blow my nose and dry the tears.

The song spoke about the father that has been gone for a couple of years and that he’s still in their hearts, and then she sang about the grandchildren that were born, growing without knowing their grandpa and that today she’s getting married – at that point it all became pretty blurry for me and I left my station – there was another guy working there so I didn’t leave it unattended – to calm down and get some napkins to dry out… one of the girls – Shiran, I totally adore you, girl!!! – saw me from the other end of the whole, she knew my background and also went outside when she saw me escaping out. She met me outside and offered me something to drink and well, was basically the shoulder to cry on that I needed so badly at that moment.

After a few moments, I calmed down, went back upstairs to my station in the gallery floor, and when I got there the song was over and the blessing started.

When it was all over, all stations were opened and I was happy to get seriously busy and have something to occupy my mind from the grief and started serving all the people. at first I was alone, which was insane, because I had to manage serving 3 main course dishes – chicken breasts, salmon fish and meat which took me a while to cut. after a few seconds, my boss came with another server and they helped me out so I’ll be able to concentrate on the meat cutting, which by the way isn’t so easy. after a few minutes the boss left leaving me and the other girl. It was quite hectic because it was the two of us, serving 50-60 people.

The girl serving with me, accidentally bumped into the pan with the salmon and as a result the pan with the heating device fell of the table. she saved the salmon and caught the pan on time, but the heating device, which was flammable liquid, fell on the floor, and everybody was a bit panicked because now there was fire on the floor, and you had to step on it to stop the fire but then the liquid got stuck in the shoes and then the shoes were on fire. The guy, Itai – The magnificent fire extinguisher, who was covering our station has managed to stop the fire. None of the guests were hurt by it, luckily, they all stepped away from the fire and there weren’t too many standing nearby, so everybody were safe and once the fire was down they all came back in line for the food.

After the main course, the dances started and all servers started preparing the desserts buffets. I got to stand at the fruit salad buffet. my favorite, because there’s more action going on there besides giving the food to the guests – pouring the salads in the cups and then a scoop of ice cream on top. Some of the people that came to the station were the same people that were sitting at the gallery and remembered seeing me upstairs. two girls even asked me if I’m the one that had the fish and the fire falling on the floor and I laughed and said it was the girl next to me and said “Oh my, now people are going to remember me as the girl who had fire and salmon on the floor?” and they laughed their agreements. heh.

After desserts I went on a break and when I came back, I’ve switched with my Aussie friend Orly at the main course buffet. When she got out of her break, she brought me a bunch of yellowish roses – which at the end of the event, when tips from previous events were given, I’ve learnt that it was from the bridal bouquet, so it was extra special for me.

I stayed until closure time. I had a really good time. It felt wonderful to be able to relate to the bride, Made the event a lot more special.
