OK… did it ever happen to you that you got yourself all set and pretty for a job interview, got lost on the way and when you finally got there, the interview went so fast and was over before you could say Jack Robinson?

It happen to me today. It wasn’t the first time either – don’t know if I ever told you about my trip to Eilat (southest city in Israel) for a job interview only to find out when I got there that they already hired couple of people a day before knowing I was coming the next day.

Ughh… just the memory of the whole situation upsets me…

Anyway, I had an interview today for the huge international sports event in hope I’ll join the production team.

Again, I woke up early because I had to drive mom to work so I’ll have the car and it’ll be easier for me to get there. The meeting was set to 10:30 and I woke up few minutes before 7am. I turned the water heater on, had a cup of coffee and on the way to the shower I woke mom up. After the shower I got dressed and grabbed all the makeup stuff I started to use this week and started the entire routine – Face cream, Eye cream, Concealer, Foundation cream, Blush, Lipstick, Eye Shadow and the Mascara.

It took me about 30 minutes.

Then mom decided she wanted to have another cup of coffee so I joined her and we left the house around 8:20. I dropped her at work and was back home few minutes before 9. I’ve checked my email, went through new wanted ads online and after calling the place to make sure I got the address right I went out and drove over according to the directions I got online.

I was heading the right direction when I’ve missed an Exit (it happens alot, I know) but I didn’t know I’ve missed it because I saw a different street name than the one I got online so I kept driving on the freeway looking at the street signs – don’t worry, I was paying attention to the road – But nothing.

And then I’ve decided that I’m fed up and turned left at some point – which got me even more lost. After driving around in circles I started asking people – you’d think cab drivers would know where the place’s at, but no, Somehow I winded up in another town. The last lady I’ve asked told me how to get back to the town I’m supposed to be at and after a few more turns I got back to the freeway but on the opposite direction and after a few minutes I’ve found the right turn and realised that I’ve missed it in the very beginning.

Had I not missed it, I would have gotten there in 25 minutes instead the 45 minutes – meaning I’ve spent 20 minutes driving in damn circles!!!

OK. I’m calming down…

After finding the street, I got to the place in no time and found the office pretty fast and was there 15 minutes ahead of time which is always good.

After 5 minutes the producer of the entire event came to speak with me.

…

Let me remind you that the shower, getting dressed and putting on make up took me in total 45 minutes. Driving there took me 45 minutes.

…

5 minutes. No, I’m sorry, 10. 10 minutes.

The entire conversation, the one I’ve spent almost 2 hrs to get ready and get there, took 10 minutes!

Not only that, He said they’ll call me over AGAIN after Passover.

What’s wrong with you people??? Just because I’m unemployed doesn’t mean my time isn’t precious either!!!!

I mean, geez! they could have spared it all by a simple phone-call explaining about the event and tell me that if it interests me they’ll add my name and details for the list of interviews that will take place after the holidays, but nooooooooo, they had to bring me all this way to hear that.

After I got home, I got a phone-call from one of the temp jobs I’ve applied to and the lady asked me if it’s still relevant and I said yeah. So, I’m supposed to get to the office on Sunday so they’ll see me in person and I should start on Tuesday.

So things are starting – very slowly but still it’s a start – to work out.

Tomorrow’s my 2nd shift at the catering gig and I’ve found a ride so I don’t need mom’s car which is good.

I’ll come back during the weekend, Probably on Saturday, so till then I wish you goodbye.

And as if I need to remind you, Don’t forget to get swooped!

I don’t remember ever having a day so full of activities like the one I had yesterday – which reminds me that I definitely should get some hobbies or go back to school to feel my much to extra time so my life would have some sort of meaning…

But, of course, I need money for that, meaning I need to get a job, a well-paid job, before looking out for hobbies.

So, about yesterday:

My day started around 7 oclock in the morning when I woke up early so I could drive mom to work and have the car for the whole day. When I got back home, I went straight to the shower, got dressed and for the first time ever (!!!!) I put on some makeup on my face – I’ve definitely picked the time to start wearing makeup since it was the first day of Purim when almost everyone wears makeup. I’ve brushed my teeth before putting on lipstick and was overall satisfied with the outcome – except with the Mascara which I think I put too much which caused my eyelashes hairs got glued together, totally annoying.

My first station – or 2nd since driving mom was the first… oh, who cares – After I was ready to go, I took off to the job interview at the import office in Hertzeliyah. Of course that with my luck I’ve missed a exit at the road 2 highway and had to drive till I got to a turn on which I could U-turn and go back – which, obviously, caused me to be five minutes late but I did call when I realized I’ve missed the exit to let the office know I’ll be late, so it was OK.

I got to the office and woman to whom I talked on the phone recieved me and started telling me about the office and the job and the zillion of responsibilities that goes with it. I got totally stoked about it, because I am looking for an interesting challenging job and I completely know I’m up for it. After that, we’ve switched seats and she let me sit infront of the computer and she gave me a small test in English – since the whole work in the office is in English – and dictated me a few lines in English and after that a few lines in Hebrew which I was supposed to translate in English and I did it flawlessly. After that she led me to the CEO office where I met the CEO and talked with him a bit and I told him that all the talk about the many responsibilities only got me more excited to work with them instead of scaring me away.

I can totally see myself working there and doing beautifully, don’t even have the slightest doubt in my mind.

He said he’ll give me an answer by the end of this week. so, we’ll see.

When I was heading back to the car, I called the office from which I got fired and asked if the salary is ready since I’m already in the area. The CEO answered and said I can come and pick it up from the accountant. So I did. I went straight to her and took the envelope with my pay-check.

I got back to the car and went home and had almost two hours to rest before I had to go out again. This time to the doctor for a checkup – I’m fine, don’t worry.

I got home again, changed clothes and went out again to TLV for the catering gig I got through a friend and I was soooooo happy to see a familiar face from my previous catering job (Saar, it was awesome to see you there!!!) so I didn’t feel like a total stranger, you know what I mean? Anyway, it was a business event and since it’s Purim everyone wore costumes, and some were very creative. I got one of the buffets where I stood and served chicken noodles and veggi noodles for almost two hours. After the buffets were closed I joined everybody who ran everywhere clearing empty and dirty dishes from the tables and then I was given a huge tray with almond and berrys pastrys and gave them around.

During the event there was a performance of an acrobat on velvet rope, which was awesome – and the main event of the evening, the performance of the one and only diva -> Dana International! when she was presented by the host, I thought at the beginning that they’ll bring a mimic artist, but that was the real person and she looks amazing up close and personal and she got everyone on their feet dancing and singing her hits.

It was over around 1:30 in the morning and we had to clean and close the kitchen which took us about an hour. When we finally were told to take off the uniforms, I went straight to the bathroom to change and one the way I saw another familiar face! Yaniv Swissa from Y CIRCUS who I met at the previous catering job. He recognized me immediately and we were so happy to see eachother. I told him about the past three months and the fact that I lost the job and got back to catering temporarly until I could find a decent steadier job and even asked him if he’s looking to hire, but he said that he’s not hiring any new people but wished me the best of luck. I’ve congratulated him again for his marriage (already did through FACEBOOK) and said goodbye and hurried to the restrooms to change and when I got out, I saw that all the waiters were already gone which kinda sucked cause now I had to walk by myself to the parking lot.

But I’m a big girl. I took my stuff and walked quickly to the parking lot, got into the car and drove home – got there around 3am and went to sleep about forty minutes later – hey, I had to wash off the makeup I was wearing. I didn’t do a good job with the mascara because later on that morning when I woke up and went to the bathroom, I’ve found two dark circles around my eyes.

Mom helped me to take it all off. She and my sister were very happy to hear that I finally wore makeup.

Hey hey!

It’s Sunday, just past 8 pm, and I’ve set three job interviews to this week. Not bad, huh?

It was noonish when I got the first call. by that time I’ve spent couple of hours browsing new ads trying unsuccessfully to find a job offer that would interest me, so I was a bit upset about the rough start in this week job hunting.

So when I got the first call, it got me all excited and motivated again and Now I’m going to three job interviews, totally different by all means.

First interview was set to tomorrow, Monday, around 11am. It’s an import company and the job is secretary and the most important thing here is that it’s in the same industrial area I used to work at, meaning if I get the job I’ll be able to go back to the health club I was signed for for two months till I got fired and had to cancel it, meaning I’ll go back swimming and that will be totally awesome…

But that’s not the issue now. The issue is getting the job first, right?

So, we had a very nice talk and she expressed her worries for my lack of experience, saying that this job is very demanding and with lots of responsibilities. I told her I’m up for the challenge and a quick learner and after the talk we had she decided to set the meeting for the interview.

The second and third interviews are set on Wednesday. One of them is set to 10:30 am. An events production company and it’s to a huge Sport event production taking place around June-July in TLV area. I got it via the many emails I’ve sent to all the production companies. They called and asked me to come over and I said, sure why not?

I do hope I’ll get a steadier job before that, but who knows what the future brings, right?

And finally the third interview. The call came from a small and very unique theater in TLV looking for Assistant Director and Show Manager. The woman I’ve spoken to, first invited me to one of their running shows on Tuesday, and I totally accepted the offer. I loved the idea they’re giving candidates an opportunity to see what they’re gonna be up against if they get the job, you know what I mean?

Anyway, She said that we’ll set the interview on Wednesday. I’ll know the exact time tomorrow (Monday).

Also, Tomorrow would be my first night at the Catering job I got through a friend. I just hope I won’t break anything

Wish me luck!!

Who’d have thought that I’ll be fired after three months at the advertising company?

Yes, I’m back on blogging, sorry it took me so long. Truth is, nothing too exciting has happened during those couple of months until last week when the boss called me to his office and said that due to shortage of communication and lack of chemistry, he decided to look for a replacement and that I could stay until the end of the month – meaning last February.

Upset? no, I’m not upset. I admit that I’ve shed a few tears in front of him when he told me and later that day, when I got home, I let it all out. but after that day, I just took myself together and started looking for a job. Again.

Last Sunday – or was it Monday? – I’ve watched the Dr. Phil show about smoochers (I know I spelled it wrong), the topic of the show doesn’t really matter to my point here which is something he said to one of his guests. he said “if you don’t have a full time job, you need to work full time from 9-5 to find a job”. And that line keeps looping in my head over and over since then.

the minute after the show was over, which was around 9am, I went to the computer and got on-line to several classifieds websites and started sending my CV to everywhere. and every 30 minutes I’d refresh the page and check the new ads.

Same routine for Monday.

On Tuesday I’ve decided to email all productions companies and send them my CV. so I started working on my letter and sent it to a friend to check it out and tell me if it sounds good. five minutes later he asked me for my CV and three hours after that, my CV looked a whole lot better, and later on that day, I started to receive responses from some of the many productions companies I’ve sent it to.

Thanks, Mark! you’re the best!

so on Wednesday and Thursday, that’s what I did. I’ve spent half the day to send my CV to classified ads and half the day to send it to productions companies.

so far, I got three job interviews next week.

Until I get a job, well, I contacted a friend who’s an event manager for a big catering company in Tel Aviv area and asked him if he still needs help. he said yes and signed me to three events this month, which is better than nothing, right?

He pays much better than the other catering company I’ve worked for and it’s business events only, so it should be piece of cake after, well.. you know – and he’s a very cool dude.

Thanks for the chance, Uriel, you rock!!!

and as the last posts, the end of this post is dedicated to the cast and production crew of the upcoming blockbuster SWOOPED !

I can’t believe how fast the weekend has passed. I didn’t have enough time to recover from last week at work, and already have another week starting.

Phew!!!

The thing is, the week wasn’t so different than the one before it, but it seemed like I messed up way too much at work in such short time that the whole week seemed like a week from hell – and I’m still trying to figure out what it was exactly that I did wrong that caused such a chaotic chain reaction.

It felt like a really fast roller coaster ride which is why I was so relieved when the weekend came. I felt in such ease I went shopping for sportswear – something I haven’t done, well, ever!

But now the weekend’s over and another week’s starting, it’s a little nerve wrecking.

I’m not entirely spooked though, I’m planning to learn from my mistakes and be better because of it – you know, writing things done, get things done as soon as I get them, and try to relax as the boss once told me at some point this week.

I finally got my last check from my job as a waitress. I’m not even going to start telling you guys how hard it was to get my former boss on the phone so I could tell her I’m coming to get my check. In the end, one of the guys who still work there and lives nearby got the check for me and spared me the ride over there.

I’m so glad that part of my life is now definitely behind me – so glad I didn’t even give a damn when I saw on the salary sheet that she reduced me by half an hour – my guess that she did it because I was late, which I know for sure that I wasn’t during the few days in earlier December when I still worked as a waitress, – as far as I’m concerned, she can take those few shekels she neglected from me and shove it right up her – …well, you know.

And to some good news - Shaun Paul Costello and Joe Gariffo have finally wrapped SWOOPED and now they’re starting the post production. I wanna wish them both and the entire cast – Krista Boshinski, Whitney Nielsen, Greg Bell, Nicole Cinaglia, Nicole Eckenroad, Charlie Anderson, Kat O’Connor, Tiffany Caprice, Walt Marziani, Nicholas Krouse, Ryan Duffy, Christina Rose Scott, Joe Raffa, Elliot Herman, James Baker, Jesse Draham, Darrell M.

Big title, huh?

I had a really good start for 2009. I’m finally through with the payments to cover a loan I took from the bank about 3 years ago. It’s beyond words to describe how I feel every-time I log on my bank account on-line and see, where the loan payments were detailed, that the last payment was last week. What a perfect sight, believe me.

Now I know that there are many who are still paying their own loans and it’s not cool that I gloat like that, but it really does make me extremely happy and I’m wishing to you all such happiness.

I’m also done with the huge minus in my bank account. Quitting the job as a waitress and hardly ever use my credit card for the past couple of months were smart moves, Nay, Genius!!

I got my first salary as an administrative manager, which covered almost the entire minus I’ve been having ever since I first started as a waitress – and with the last salary from that job I’ll cover it completely and be on the plus side for the first time in a really long time. And that feels AWESOME. Just one more month of keeping my wallet out of sight and mind and I’ll be just fine.

Though I gotta admit, since I started the new job, I did use my credit card more often than I used to all these months (which was hardly ever), But I am careful and spending only on the things I need rather than things I want – That method makes all the difference when it comes to take control on your finances, ask anyone.

Example: I’ve signed up this week to a really exclusive health club . It costs quite alot, but it’s huge and has everything in it included plus the fact that it’s right next to where I work – I won’t have the excuse I used to have in previous places that it’s too far, not feeling like going etc etc, this time it’s so close to me, all it takes me is just a few steps from the office. and I’m super excited about going there too.

… I might needs to shop for sportswear… and a swimming-suit (The place has a huge 3-lane indoors pool!!!)

Did I mention how much I love my new job?

I never thought I’d love the idea of being an administrative manager, but it’s quite fun, heh. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not sitting with my legs crossed atop of the table and do nothing, there’s work all the time – And I’m not complaining since so far I’ve got everything under control.

The thing that I love the most is the fact that the boss is open-minded to new ideas. for instance, about a month before I started working here, I read an article on the newspaper about this 15 years old girl, Tal Abitbul, who got a very rare Cancer and her only chance of survival is a radioactive treatment in the USA which in total costs over $80,000USD. After reading the article, I immediately thought about my dad and I just knew I had to do something, anything, to help this girl out, so I opened a cause on facebook, which I update every other day – the girl has a website, so I’m using most of my info on my cause page through there – and today the 400th person signed up the cause, which is very exciting.

a couple of days ago I saw an ad on the Tal’s website calling out to people to help advertise the girl’s situation with a roll-up poster, asking people to SMS and donate. So, I immediately thought about the company I’m working for and asked the boss to see if he’s game and to see how we could help. He was totally up to it. I already contacted the guy who put the ad online and still have to check a few tech issues – plus I have another perfect idea which I’ll share only after it gets green-light. I’m just happy that he didn’t turn the idea off. it totally made my day.

That’s it for today, heh, very short this time.

I’m sending all my love and best wishes to my Philly boys, Shaun Paul Costello and Joe Gariffo, who are back on set shooting their new movie SWOOPED, I pity the fools who will miss it!!!

SWOOPED – A “bromantic” comedy about two friends chasing after the girls of their dreams. Through a series of events, each guy gets with the other’s girl resulting in hilarious consequences.

To my brothers and sisters, the brave soldiers in the IDF protecting our southern cities and kicking Hamas’s ass – THANK YOU ALL AND MORE POWER TO YOU!! you’re all in my thoughts and prayers constantly.

Hey reader!

I was planning to write as always about how I’m doing at work, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the war going on less than 40 miles south from my home. It was brought to my knowledge by the Media that the Hamas is doing everything it can to turn the world against us, making the start of the military operation at the Gaza Strip Israel’s fault. you must have heard them and the people representing them almost everywhere by now – TV, Radio, Newspapers, Internet…

Well, guess what? there are two sides to every coin, and now it’s time to hear ours!

Please forward to your friends. There are very important facts to share with elected officials and journalists. There is far too much ignorance out there regarding what led up to this operation. You can help….

We call on international leaders and all people of good conscience to support Israel as it acts to protect its citizens from systematic and wanton attacks from Gaza.

Hamas and its supporters bear sole responsibility for any harm to Gaza’s civilians. The U.S., France, Russia, Mahmoud Abbas, (president of the Palestinian Authority), and other international leaders have blamed Hamas’ escalating rocket attacks for Israel’s current military action.

Hamas and other Iranian-supported extremists chose to renew their war against Israel instead of renewing the six-month “calm” that ended on Dec 19th. In the week after Dec. 19th, Gaza’s terrorists committed war crimes and collective punishment by launching over 280 rockets and mortars that targeted civilian men, women, and children in southern Israel.

Israel seeks peace. It withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but instead of nation-building, Hamas seized control and has abused Gaza to build its terrorist capabilities and incite hatred and violence.

Israel respected the June 19th agreement for six months of “calm,” even as Hamas strengthened its terrorist infrastructure and launched over 377 attacks during the agreement. Israel exhausted all diplomatic channels to renew the “calm,” but Hamas responded only with escalating terrorism.

Israel has exercised extraordinary restraint even as Hamas has systematically targeted Israeli civilians, and Hamas has left Israel no choice but the military option it began on Dec. 27th. Israel’s stated goal is to destroy the terrorist infrastructure while avoiding harm to Palestinian civilians.

Hamas’ fanatical commitment to its founding document’s mission of “obliterating” Israel and murdering Jews is once again causing suffering for Palestinians living in Gaza. When Israel employed non-violent strategies to pressure Hamas to moderate, the terrorist organization cynically exploited them to accuse Israel of human rights’ abuses. Hamas attacks on Israel-Gaza crossings have impeded humanitarian aid deliveries. Hamas rocket misfires and “work accidents” have killed Palestinian children. Hamas’ ruthless use of human shields and densely populated neighborhoods has endangered Palestinian non-combatants. Hamas’ refusal to let wounded Gazans cross into Egypt for medical care is compounding casualties.

We join other international leaders in unequivocally condemning Hamas and its crimes against Palestinians and Israelis.

We call on the civilized world to support the right and above all, the duty, of every sovereign nation—including Israel—to defend its citizens from armed aggression. No nation can or should allow daily, incessant attacks against its people. There is no justification their terrorizing and intentionally murdering innocent men, women, and children.

Hamas could have easily changed Israeli policies merely by renouncing extremism and terrorism. It chose war instead. We hope the day will soon come when Hamas’ self destructive battle against Israel ends, and Israelis can live with their neighbors in prosperity and peace.

We urge you to send this statement or your own letter with some of the above facts to national or international leaders. For addresses of national US officials, go to: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/officials/congress/?lvl=C&aZip=&search=GO

Dont forget to copy the following officials:

The Honorable Ban Ki-Moon

And here just a few more points to think about:

ISRAEL WANTS PEACE!

The IDF targets terrorist outposts and always attempts to limit civilian casualties.

The definition of TERRORISM is the deliberate targeting of civilians, which HAMAS does daily to Israel.

Israel is, and always has been, sending food and humanitarian aid into Gazathrough the Karni and Keren crossings.

HAMAS is arbitrarily firing rockets into Israeli civilian areas including nursery schools, hospitals, and shopping malls.

Israel left Gaza for peace in August of 2005 and has been attacked from Gaza with thousands of rockets ever since.

Israeli citizens live with post-traumatic stress syndrome as a result of daily rocket attacks.

Israelis only have 15 seconds to run into bomb shelters once a rocket is fired by Hamas.

HAMAS’ incitement and ammunition build-up has reached dangerous levels and during the last week alone we have seen HUNDREDS of rockets fired into Israel.

Hamas openly admits to using civilians as human shields.

How would the US react to a missile attack on its citizens coming from Canada or Mexico?

Israel, as any viable democracy, must defend its citizens.

While Gaza suffers under Hamas’ rule, the West Bank has witnessed an upsurge in economic activity.

ISRAEL WANTS PEACE!

Thank you for reading.

It’s unbelievable how quickly the week’s passed and it’s seems that only yesterday I was sitting infront of the computer writing about the first week, and here I am, writing already about the second week!

So the CEO, my boss, was out of the country for about a week on a business trip and things went really well in the office.

One of the things I’ve started to do this week is, well, The company’s advertising in a very known weekly magazine for the past 2-3 years. From every weekly, the publisher sent us a lot of copies which some would be sent to customers and the rest was saved in our office. So a lot of copies from a lot of weeks were stored in the archive up to the the point of no more room for 2009. So my boss asked me to take care of it while he was gone. and I’d have finished it a lot faster had I not have other things to do on daily basis (phone, bank, mail etc.). But I’m half way through, hopefully I’ll be done with the magazine archive by Monday.

What else? umm… well, I got the ink ordered for all the printers and I started to work on the office supply shopping list and stopped in order to put the office supply cabinet into order – really, with all that mess, I couldn’t tell what’s missing or not. So, by the time it was time for me to leave for the day – and the week, since it was Thursday (and yeah, my boss got back to work that day) – I was done with the cabinet and now I can see exactly what’s missing and have the shopping list done on Sunday morning.

So, as you can see, a really easy breezy week and I LOVE MY NEW JOB!!!

Next week? oh, next week I’m shopping for office supply, finishing arranging the magazine archive, put the documentation archive in order and get some room for 2009 and when I’m done with that – I’m heading straight to the office kitchen!

Check out next week’s post to see if I made it through!

I’m super happy right now. not only it’s finally the weekend for all of us but it’s my first weekend at the new job as administrative manager in an advertising company!!!

The first couple of days, last week’s Wednesday and Thursday and Sunday this week was kinda awkward, because everything is new to me – new place, new job description, new hours, new people – and there was a lot of stuff to remember at once all over the sudden like the names of everybody and their positions at work, the PO box number, Banks deposit routine, saying “Infomotion Shalom” in every phone-call and most importantly – making sure there’s enough milk in the fridge every morning for coffee.

But I got the hang of it pretty quickly, and I guess they’re satisfied with what I do, because on Monday morning – or was it Tuesday? – The CEO’s asked me to talk with the guy in charge of the graphics department and ask him to teach me production’s procedures!!! I’m totally excited about that because I understood from the word in the office that the girl who worked before me, was never offered the chance to do it. So I’m pleased. for myself that is.

I was also requested to translate the company’s website to English and there are actually three websites, and I have one more to go. I’d have finished a lot earlier if it wasn’t for the daily stuff I’m supposed to do in the office. He, The CEO, my boss, is not sitting on my back until I finish and except for a few mistakes, I did a pretty decent job so far.

And yesterday I met another worker to whom the CEO introduced me to, telling him that and I quote “This is Orly the administrative manager and she’s PERFECTLY FINE EVEN THOUGH SHE’S NEW”!!!!!!!!

Not bad for first week huh? I can’t wait to see what the next week will bring. On Sunday we’re lighting Hanukkah’s first candle in the office and later that day My boss take off and will be out of the country for about a week and I wonder how’s work gonna be without him. He’s a cool guy, a hard worker, don’t get me wrong, I’m just curious which is only natural because it’s all new to me.

The end of this post will be dedicated to my boys from Philly, Shaun Paul Costello and Joe Gariffo, who start shooting their new and first full feature movie “SWOOPED” this weekend.

What’s the movie about? SWOOPED is a “bro-mantic” comedy about two best friends going after two different girls. Through a series of events, each guy gets with the other one’s girl, leading to hilarious consequences.
